Agricultural Technicians Union of Malawi (ATUM) has given government a 7 day ultimatum from Tuesday to positively address challenges extension workers are facing or stage a sit in.

National general secretary for ATUM, Isaac Kwisongole says some of the concerns include mobility, salary arrears, promotions and lack of personal protective gear and risk allowances amid Covid 19 pandemic.

"We have been writing and meeting ministry top brass putting our concerns on the table but yielded nothing," says Kwisongole.

He says they are set to put down their tools if they are not assisted after the seven days.

Ministry of agriculture spokesperson Priscilla Mateyu asked for more time before responding.
