Authorities at Mwanza border have cancelled all passengers’ services including border passes in their continued efforts to fight further spread of the deadly Corona virus.

Spokesperson for the border, Pasqually Zulu, says only essential services are receiving attention.

“On top of that, each and every traveler is also exposed to new border formalities where Covid-19 tests are being done right at the border. All immigration and Malawi Revenue Authority are conducting their duties upon presentation of the Covid-19 clearance form that must have a date stamp from the border’s laboratory,” he said.

Zulu, however, bemoaned bad perception some travelers have towards the pandemic.

“Lessons have been learnt on the consequences of not adhering to health experts’ advice in relation to the dangers of disease. Further to that, experts in the field clearly indicated that the disease needs to be treated as war where patriotism and team spirit is paramount,” he said.

“With these joint border initiative to stop further importation and spread of corona virus, we are 100% sure that the efforts being done right here at Mwanza border will positively contribute to the efforts being done by Ministry of Healthy and Government,” he added.
