Kameza Health Workers Let Loose Covid-19 Patients Over Allowances
A row over unpaid risk allowances for health workers at Kameza Covid-19 isolation Centre in Blantyre has ended in the horror of premature released of Corona virus patients last evening.
This comes about three days after the health workers threatened the action if the District Health Office did not pay the health workers the risk allowances.
Zodiak Online spoke to Michael Ngozanga one of the health workers. He told us that the health workers have withdrawn from the facility until the concerns are addressed.
“We have tried in vain to engage authorities on this issue. They have given a blind eye to this,” Ngozanga he said acknowledging “it is unfortunate it had to get to this”.
Ngozanga, however, said the discharge of the patients followed proper procedure but he did not elaborate.
Zodiak Online understands that Blantyre District Health Office owes its 88 health workers on this task risk allowances in arrears dating back to January.
The workers in Grades I and above are entitled to K40,000 per day, Grade K- K30,000 and those in lower grades receive K20,000 and below per day.
