Kachele has told a press conference at the main tally centre that the sanctions of the law will take full charge on whoever tries to disturb the exercise.

He, has, however, urged citizens to refrain from taking the law in their own hands when they confront situations they suspect are in conflict with electoral law.

“Our expectation is that all will continue to progress smoothly. As a Commission, we know that everyone wants that the election is peaceful. We urge all to abide by the law during the vote casting period and also during vote counting,” he said adding that every vote cast shall be counted to reflect the wish of the Malawian.

“Do not be discouraged. Come out to vote,” he says.

Six million, eight hundred and fifty nine five hundred and seventy voters are expected to cast their votes in 9,271 polling centres.

The press conference is coming at a time in Mzimba district, a Democratic Progressive Party-DPP monitor has been arrested for an alleged electoral offence.

The monitor, identified as Mary Banda, was arrested at Mbalachanda Polling Center after she was allegedly found with six national identity cards and six voter certificates.

Banda comes from Kajapi village in the area of Inkosi Chindi.

Mzimba District Commissioner, Emmanuel Bambe, who is the District Returning Officer, says police are meanwhile probing to get to the bottom of the matter.

She is now at Mbalachanda Police Unit.
