Neno district tuberculosis tracking team has lamented that they are failing to trace Tuberculosis cases in the district saying they are at sixty nine percent against the national recommendation of seventy percent.

Neno district TB coordinator Paul Gondwe told Zodiak-online that, village dwellers are supplying more sputum than what they collect at the district hospital.

"We are encouraging these people to bring more sputum to us whilst on the other hand, we are intensifying sputum collection at district hospital so that we reach the seventy percent national data recommendation", Gondwe stressed.

He further said from 2016 to 2018, TB treatment defaulters where at sixty nine percent but now with help from different stakeholders, they have reduced it by ninety four percent which is recommendable.

"With this, at national level treatment outcome we are at number four from number twenty eight last year, so we can say we are now on the right track in TB treatment management", said Gondwe.

Ex-Miners Association of Malawi programs manager Bickie Jimusole commended the usage of mobile vans for TB screening saying the initiative has helped to trace more TB cases especially in this Covid19 era.

" By 2035 we believe TB in artisan mines would be eradicated since more miners are now being aware of their status and adhering to preventative measures", said Jimusole.

On big issue that the TB team attributed to its hustle in tracing TB cases was underreporting of presumptive TB cases which led to more defaulters.
