Phalombe Cllrs Want Demand Driven Projects

Ward councilors in Phalombe have urged non-governmental organizations implementing development initiatives to brief them before rolling out of projects.

Ironically, all the non-governmental organizations brief Area Development Committees (ADCs) where councilors are members once the District Executive Committee (DEC) approves implementation of the projects in the district.

Speaking to Zodiak Online Monday, Chairperson for Phalombe district council, Francis Nunkhazingwe said the move will help in the delivery of durable and reliable projects.

Nunkhazingwe said members of the council are supposed to know the number of organizations and areas where non- governmental organizations are working.

He said this will help council members to ensure that projects which organizations are implementing meet the needs of the beneficiaries.

"Every area has its own development plan and implementing projects without briefing members of the council defeats the whole purpose of developing the area,"  Said Nunkhazingwe.

Chairperson for Phalombe Civil Society Organizations Network (CSOs), Richard Muluzi has conceded the challenge, but he was quick to say that not all organizations are not involving council members when implementing the projects.

Muluzi said plans are in the pipeline to hold annual Indaba to brief council members and departmental heads on the projects organizations are implementing in the district.

Phalombe district council in partnership with civil society organizations last held an Indaba in May 2017.
