Ombudsman Martha Chizuma says her office has received information it demanded from the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) for its investigation on the usage of COVID-19 funds.

The Office of Ombudsman demanded DoDMA to submit the information by Friday July 17th, 2020 and the Department submitted the data on the deadline.

Chizuma says they will from first week of August start following up with institutions that received the funds from the Department on how the funds are being used.

“The next step now is to analyze that information because, basically, the information will be saying that this is the money that was sourced locally or internationally and this money was shared in this manner.

“It will be now up to us as Ombudsman office to follow up on that money to find out that this is what they planned and if at all those activities were carried out and to find out if there were any loopholes or any maladministration on handling of that money,” she said.

The Ombudsman requested from DODMA a list of all public institutions in the country that have received money for Covid-19 interventions among others.
