Council Staff Welcomes Dr. Matchaya as New DC
Workers at Thyolo District Council have written the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to proceed with its decision of sending former Nkhotakota District Commissioner Dr. Medson Matchaya to Thyolo.
The letter follows two separate letters sent to the same Ministry by councilors, some chiefs and concerned citizens demanding reversal of its decision to transfer Dr. Matchaya to Thyolo.
Said the workers in their letter; “those against Dr. Matchaya’s transfer to Thyolo are being ill-advised by a senior officer here and he has been financing their meetings but he will not succeed.”
The district council chairperson, Councilor Sandram Maulana, told Zodiak Online that Dr. Matchaya was chased from Nkhotakota because of financial mismanagement and arrogance and sending him to Thyolo is unfair to people of Thyolo.
“It is unfortunate that Government is sending here the DC who has failed to deliver in Nkhotakota and surely we will not accept this but we are ready to welcome any DC apart from Dr. Matchaya,” said Councilor Maulana.
The Ministry’s spokesperson Muhlabase Mughogho said the ministry received first two letters and is yet to receive the one by the council staff.
“As the ministry we cleared Dr. Matchaya of any wrong doing and he was transferred from Nkhotakota because of the prevailing situation suffice to say that officials from the ministry will meet those against Government’s decision to hear their concerns,” said Mughogho.
According to Mughogho, Dr. Matchaya is going to Thyolo to replace Justin Kathumba who is heading to Neno to replace Blessings Nkhoma who has been transferred to Nkhotakota.
