Msukwa said this on Tuesday after a surprise visit to the plot at Mudi – Limbe which was owned by Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) but was sold by the ministry to one a Mr. Patel who built a mansion.

The minister was visiting MHC and building projects the Corporation is implementing in Blantyre.

Msukwa who was with his deputy, Abida Mia, and MHC officials followed Mr. Patel to his KU Distributors office at Maone where he asked Patel some questions on the land sale.

“A plot that belonged to Malawi Housing Corporation was given to one Mr. Patel and yet procedures were not normally done.

“This is a very serious matter; my ministry will take it up and will ensure that we conclude it and that proper remedies are put in place,” he said.

Mr. Patel who produced documents in his defense denied any wrongdoing on the land purchase.

“I made formal application to the ministry of lands. As far as I am concerned, I didn’t know whose land was. So my first objective was to go to lands department and make formal application because it was next to my property,” Patel said.  

Patel produced receipts that indicated that he paid K47 million development charge to the ministry for the plot.

It was learnt during the visit that the plot had property that belonged to MHC but was demolished without compensation.
