Agora Shop Manager Arrested for Misappropriating K6.5 Million

Police in Mangochi have arrested a manager at Agora - Maldeco depot for stealing money amounting to 6.5 million Kwacha.

Police deputy spokesperson for the district, Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, told Zodiak Online Tuesday that the suspect, Patrick Nachuma, was arrested at Jali in Zomba on Monday where he was hiding since committed the offence about 10 days ago and has since recovered K5.4 million from the stolen money.

“It was reported that the suspect, Patrick Nachuma, 36, who was working as a manager at the shop left without notifying anyone on 31st July 2020, after the company's auditing team from Blantyre arrived at the premises,” said Tepani Daudi.

According to Tepani Daudi, the audit team discovered that about 6.5 million kwacha, which was transacted through company's Mpamba and bank accounts was missing and that the suspect also went away with the company's three cellphones.

“After such revelations, Mangochi Police detectives initiated investigations and found the suspect at Jali in Zomba where he was hiding and has since recovered K5.4 million from the stolen money,” explained Tepani Daudi.

The suspect will appear before court soon to answer the charge of theft by servant which is contrary to section 286 of the penal code, according to Tepani Daudi who said Nachuma is from Mwangala village in the area of Traditional Authority Kadewele in Chiradzulu.
