More Malawians Return From RSA

Over 500 Malawians have arrived in the country from South Africa where they have fled harsh effects of COVID-19 orchestrated lockdown.

Twelve buses carrying the returnees arrived at Mwanza border on Tuesday.

Mwanza border spokesperson, Pasqually Zulu, says “the group which was escorted by Malawi embassy officials all the way from South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique were handed over to immigration and healthy personnel at Zobue border in Mozambique.”

“Upon arrival of the buses at Mwanza border, port health personnel gave health talk to the returnees before disinfecting buses

“Immigration assessment on the Passenger's manifest indicates that each bus is carrying 42 passengers and 2 drivers.”

Zulu said the bus were sent to designated areas where COVID-19 test will be done.

“Malawi Revenue Authority and Immigration formalities will also be done,” he said.

According to Zulu, 4 buses have gone to Nalikule Teachers Training College (TTC) in Lilongwe, other 4 will be cleared at Machinga TTC while the last 4 buses will be going to Domasi TTC in Zomba.
