Mai Dinala Laid to Rest
Hundreds of Malawians on Wednesday escorted the late Roseby Dinala, one of Malawi Congress Party (MCP)’s longest serving members, to her last home at Chitawira cemetery in Blantyre.
Viewing was held at Soche Seventh day Adventist Church ground and was followed by prayers in her honor at St. Columba CCAP Church.
Entry into the Church was limited to a recommended maximum number of people in compliance to COVID-19 preventive measures.
President Lazarus Chakwera who only attended the prayer service hailed the late Dinala in his eulogy as a pillar of the governing Malawi Congress Party.
“Somebody just told me that there are three things that determine our lives; passion, action and reaction. If you look at Mai Dinala’s life, you will see passion, action, and you will also see positive reaction, even in tough situations of her life.
“I was once entrusted with powers to appoint members of MCP National Executive Committee. I appointed Mai Dinala and Manjamkhosi to groom us. That is who she has been; a great teacher; a bold woman,” he said.
Chakwera said the late Dinala has been influential in ensuring that MCP survives over twenty years it has been outside government.
The President was represented by youth and sports minister, Ulemu Msungama at the cemetery whilst vice president, Saulos Chilima, was represented by UTM vice president, Michael Usi.
The ceremony was also graced by Mama Tamanda C Kadzamira, former hostess of the first Malawi’s president, the late Kamuzu Banda.
At the cemetery, chief Zingwangwa, expressed disappointment with some people who he said turned back a vehicle sent by Democratic Progressive Party legislator for Blantyre City South, Noel Lipipa, to help at the funeral.
“We need these people in our areas to bring us development. Some of you will not be here next time. It is us the chiefs who struggle and we need these people,” he said.
The late Dinala died on Tuesday at Blantyre Adventist Hospital after a short illness.
She died at the age of 82 and survived with seven children and 56 grandchildren.
