According to District Health Spokesperson Innocent Chavinda, cross border collaboration is crucial in addressing health challenges.

Chavinda however said such collaboration is no longer there between health workers Mulanje in Malawi and Villa-Milanje in Mozambique due to COVID-19 scare.

“This is negatively affecting the fight against the spread of coronavirus in Mulanje. Now we are discussing with District Commissioner’s office for a possible resumption of these meetings,” said Chavinda.

Meanwhile District Commissioner Stallichi Mwambiwa says the council is working towards enhancement of commitment of police, immigration, health, local leaders and community police structures in patrolling border areas.

“Collaboration of these stakeholders will help detect those using unchartered routes hence contributing to the fight against spread of coronavirus in our district,” said Mwambiwa.

As of Tuesday, 18th August, 2020 Mulanje had recorded 39 COVID-19 confirmed cases, 33 recoveries and one death.
