The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in Chikwawa has engaged various district stakeholders in a bid to fully revamp the District One Stop Centre which is the main referral for cases of Gender Based Violence and sexual Abuse in the district.

The stakeholders, including officials from the District Health Office, Social welfare, Gender Office, Education Office, Police and the Judiciary, are duty bound to oversee the daily running of the Facility which is currently not in full swing due to lack of technical and material support.

According to the One Stop Centre Nurse, Rose Chonde, the daily running of the facility is affected by lack of coordination between the mentioned stakeholders and unavailability of key health equipment.

“We lacked coordination with other relevant stakeholders such as police and social welfare, a development which scaled down the number of cases that we receive and handle.

We are also in dire need of health materials such as pediatric speculums, drappes, and examination bulbs," Chonde explained.

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, CCJP Chikwawa diocesan Secretary, Lewis Msiyadungu, said the Commission is all set to revive the facility in order to enhance service provision to GBV survivors.

“We will be having monthly coordination meetings with officials from the mentioned government departments. This will help us to improve GBV case referral to the facility, investigation, prosecution and provision of post remedial care”

“In addition, we will engage our development partners to help us with the needed materials so that the facility is up and running," said Msiyadungu

With funding from the Shire Valley Transformation Programme and GBV Prevention and Mitigation Intervention, CCJP has also trained 96 GBV sensitization at community level and facilitate case reporting to the One Stop Center.

The Chikwawa District One Stop Centre was established in 2014 to provide support to GBV survivors from various ends of the district.
