Blantyre City Council (BCC) has taken to selected locations its campaign of removing street vendors in the city.

Spokesperson for the Council, Anthony Kasunda, says they will any day from now enforce the order to drive the vendors away from the streets.

Kasunda says a seven day grace period that the Council offered the vendors to relocate voluntarily has expired.

“The vendors asked us to give them time to remove their structures and we gave them seven days for that. Now that time has come to an end and we are planning how to do the operation.

“We usually do not disclose when to do this because we do not want to put lives of the people who conduct the operation in danger but trust me, one day you will wake up to see the demolition of the structures,” he said.

This comes days after the Council successfully removed vendors from undesignated places in Limbe and the Central Business District.

Some of the targeted places are along CI - Chikwawa road and Chirimba.
