Banda said this on Tuesday when a local humanitarian organization, Habitat for Humanity Malawi trained 190 beneficiaries whom the organization is constructing houses.

He said cases of property grabbing are high due to lack of knowledge on Wills and Inheritance Act.

“There are a lot of cases regarding property grabbing in Phalombe but victims chose to remain silent due to lack of knowledge,” said Banda.

District Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity Malawi, Steven Makombe, said the organization planned to train beneficiaries and local leaders on Wills and Inheritance Act to ensure that beneficiaries are protected.

“We want to empower beneficiaries and local leaders with knowledge on Wills and Inheritance Act to curb cases of property grabbing among our beneficiaries,” said Makombe.

Makombe added that beneficiaries will also be given land certificates to secure their houses from property grabbing activities.

One of the beneficiaries, Jean Wisikesi of Nambiri village in the area of Traditional Authority Nkhulambe said the training will minimize cases of property grabbing in the district.
