Man Jailed for Rape and Defilement in Neno

With cases of defilement and rape increasing daily in the country and despite receiving wide condemnation from different quarters of the society, some men are continuing with the vice.

In Neno district today Wednesday, The First Grade Magistrate has sentenced a twenty eight year old man, Innocent Phiri, to eight years in jail for rape and another six years for burglary which are to run concurrently.

According to Neno Police Child Protection Officer, Sub-Inspector Austin Kamwendo, Her Worship Magret Khobili sentenced the man after hearing all arguments presented before the court held at Kambale Community Day Secondary School.

"The court was moved to Kambale where the incident happened with the help of a local organization Community Action for Sustainable Development (CASDO) as a measure of sending warnings to other would be offenders and Save the Children is funding these sessions," said Kamwendo.

The accused person hails from Katoleza Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chekucheku in Neno district.
