Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) has asked government to consult a wide sector of the society in coming up with new COVID-19 guidelines saying consulting a few ministries and departments will not yield the much-desired results.

He says with the lockdown restriction lifted by the Human Rights Defenders Coalition, it is now a good time for the state president to make serious considerations on his moves to introduce new COVID-19 prevention measures.

"We expect the president Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to extend his consultations to all parties concerned in the fight like social service providers, those who look after the ultra-poor and the vulnerable, not only a selected ministries and departments," he said.

Mkwezalamba further say that there is a need for the presidential task force on Covid-19 to work directly with frontline heath workers to establish real cause of deaths.

Currently the presidential task force on Covid-19 is scrutinizing Covid-19 prevention measures in a bid to recommend to the state president of new ones.

Covid-19 cases including deaths is surging every day.

So far, it has claimed two lives of high-ranking cabinet ministers of Dr. Chakwera's led grand coalition government.
