The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is sitting on a petition by Nsanje district concerned citizens who have been pushing for action on alleged mismanagement of over K800 million at Nsanje District Council.

The citizens delivered a petition to ACB offices in Blantyre on December 18, 2020, but Zodiak Online has established that the graft busting body is yet to act on the concerns.

Nsanje Civil Society Chairperson, Mike Dansa Dansa, fears such inaction might encourage council officials to continue abusing public funds.

“We are yet to receive feedback from ACB on issues we raised in our petition. We expected the graft busting body to act with speed on the matter but it is yet to respond,” said Dansa.

“As concerned citizens we lodged a complaint and we expected action, we are disappointed with the delay by ACB to act. This will ignite anger among the citizenry who will resort to holding demonstrations.

“Council officials will continue abusing money meant for poor people as a result,” said Dansa.

ACB Spokesperson Egritta Ndala asked for more time before responding on the matter.

“I do not have information at the moment. Give me time to check with my colleagues,” said Ndala.

Ndala nevertheless confirmed receipt of the petition in question.

The 2017/2018 Auditor General’s audit report exposed alleged mismanagement of over K800 million at Nsanje District Council.
