There was commotion on Tuesday morning at Miseu Folo Trading Centre in Chikwawa where police used teargas to disperse angry minibus drivers who barricaded the M1 road protesting high fuel prices.

Eyewitnesses told Zodiak Online that the incident disturbed business as most businesspeople were forced to close their shops.

"Police threw teargas all over the trading centre. Maize mills and shop owners had to close," said Evance Kholongo, one of the eye witnesses.

He added the irate drivers blocked the road at Mikalango bridge.

District Police Spokesperson, Sargent Dickson Matemba, says police have managed to remove the stones and tyres on the road and calm has been restored.

"We have cleared the road. Road users are now passing as we continue with patrols in the area," said Matemba.
