Authorities in Phalombe say equipping local development structures with skills is key to smooth implementation of standard development projects in the country.

Phalombe District Council Human Resources Management Officer, Evance Maotcha, says for a year now, Area Development Committees (ADC) have been operating without proper skills, a development he says affected their operations such as lack of coordination.

Maotcha says for effective delivery of services, there is need for ADCs to be equipped with relevant skills.

“We would want to ensure that ADCs have acquired adequate skills to execute their duties without challenges,” said Maotcha.

He was speaking when the Council in partnership with Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) in the Arch-Diocese of Blantyre drilled 10 ADCs with skills on how they can run local development structures effectively.

Maotcha has since urged members of the local development structures to put to good use skills which they have acquired so that development projects should be implemented without challenges.

Chairperson for Kaduya ADC, Humphrey Kaduya, says the training has come at a right time because they were failing to implement some development initiatives due to lack of expertise.
