A 26-year-old Austin Hamilton, has died after a wall of a warehouse fell on him in Chigumula in Blantyre.

Limbe Police Spokesperson, Sub Inspector Patrick Mussa, says Austin Hamilton met his fate on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Chigumula market while working as a carpenter at a warehouse.

“He was with other two colleagues who were fixing the warehouse and suddenly a wall fell on them. They were taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where Austin was pronounced dead upon arrival while the other two; Fredson Elard and Frank Joseph sustained minor injuries and were treated as outpatients,” he said.

Austin Hamilton hailed from Dzungu village in the area of Traditional Authority Bvumbwe in Thyolo district.

In a related development, a16-year-old girl has died after being hit by a motor vehicle in Limbe.

Sub Inspector Mussa says the accident occurred in the morning of January 26, 2021 at Our Lady of Wisdom Secondary School which is along Tsiranana road.

“The girl is Clara Chimombo, from Sosola village in the area of Traditional Authority Nsamala in Balaka. On the said date, the motor vehicle Registration Number MH 1887 Hino Dutro was being driven by Moffat Gustino, 43 years, from Kabwazi village, Traditional Authority Makwangwala, and was coming from Maone roundabout heading Maselema roundabout.

“Passing by the said secondary school, he hit Clara who was crossing the road from left to right. She sustained severe head injuries and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival,” he said.

Meanwhile, a charge of Causing death by reckless or negligence driving has been placed on the driver's head and will appear in court soon.
