Care International Malawi has become the latest organization to respond to calls by Mulanje District Council for support towards prevention of the spread COVID-19.

On Thursday, the organization made a donation of K17.6 million worth of materials such as sanitizers, chlorine and buckets to the Council.

According to the organization’s ECHO-COVID-19 Project Manager, Chimwemwe Gremu, the other support that include blankets, plastic sheets, mosquito nets and metallic pots will go towards disaster affected households.

“The items have been repositioned at the Council so that they easily reach affected communities,” said Gremu.

District Commissioner Stallichi Mwambiwa has since hailed the organization for the support.

“The support will go a long way in preventing the spread of coronavirus in the district while the other support will alleviate challenges that come with disasters as you know Mulanje has of late been hit by different disasters like stormy rains, heavy rains, flush floods and lightning,” said Mwambiwa.

On COVID-19, as of Wednesday, 27th January, 2021, Mulanje had registered 448 cumulatively, 139 recoveries and 8 deaths.

On disasters, since the onset of rains, the district has recorded 5 deaths, 35 injuries and 3, 336 displaced households.
