In a bid to restore the lost forestry glory that Neno district had, the Muslim Artist Association has donated tree seedlings to Neno South Constituency and the Department of Forestry.

President of the Association, Noordin Cassim, says as Muslims, they were concerned to see Neno district losing its forestry cover due to wanton cutting down of trees.

"As Muslims, our faith teaches to conserve our environment so we are worried to see Neno losing its forestry glory due to charcoal business. We saw it as a wise decision to donate three thousand tree seedlings to Neno District Forestry Department," said Noordin.

Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Mark Katsonga Phiri, says there is a need for government to provide industries to districts as a way of providing alternative sources of income.

"Government should take up the responsibility of providing factories to districts per its economic activity to do away with charcoal burning," he said.

"These charcoal burners should not be forced to abandon their businesses but rather be provided with soft loans and others skills to survive on," Katsonga added.

Neno District Forestry Officer, Emmanuel Ngwangwa, commended Association for the seedlings which is to be distributed to individuals for planting.
