An angry mob in Nsanje has assaulted a 45-year-old man to death on allegation that he battered his wife and his two step children.

Police have identified the man as Fatsani Thom from Nyanderu Village Traditional Authority Chimombo in the district.

Nsanje Police Spokesperson, Sub- Inspector Agnes Zalakoma, says the man was allegedly killed on February 7, 2021.

Police report indicates that the deceased was married to Flora Fernando aged 42 of the same village and found her with children from another man.

According to the report, the husband and his wife had been at loggerheads for some time as the former had been accusing the wife of having secret love affairs.

“It was on February 6, 2021 when the same accusation rose and as usual, the hubby assaulted his wife. The wife ran away for her safety, leaving behind two children, aged 16 and 5.

“The husband started assaulting the two children and, in the process, he caused bodily injuries to the 5-year-old and he escaped.

“Members of the public started searching for the husband and upon being found, he was allegedly assaulted by the members of the public before being handed over to police on February 7, 2021.

“After a short time, the condition of the suspect (husband) deteriorated and he was rushed to Nsanje District Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” reads the report.

According to the police, postmortem conducted revealed that death was caused due to internal bleeding.

Meanwhile, investigations are in progress to trace and arrest the suspects in connection to the death of the man.
