The Blantyre Synod of the CCAP has asked religious and traditional leaders to demonstrate leadership in mobilizing their subjects to go for COVID 19 vaccination.

The Synod leadership told journalists after launching the vaccine on Tuesday that community leaders have to rise up and encourage people to receive the vaccine with faith in order to contain the pandemic.

They said Malawi has been administering various vaccines in the past and that people should not be disturbed by false rumors to shy away from the covid 19 vaccine.

Both the Synod General Secretary, Reverend Billy Gama, and Moderator Reverend Masauko Mbolembole emphasized on the need for people to take the vaccine with faith, that it will protect them from the pandemic.

“As CCAP Blantyre synod, we have accepted the vaccine. I urge all religious leaders and chiefs to encourage communities to have the jab so that the country should contain COVID 19,” said Gama.

Meanwhile, Director of Health and Social Services for Blantyre Gift Kawalazira says out of 7, 000 people who have received the vaccine, no one has been found with adverse effects.

“We are impressed with the high turnout of people who are coming for the covid 19 vaccination. We however urge those that were infected by the virus to wait for six months before getting the vaccine in order to monitor their body immunity.

“So those below 18 years and those that suffered from Covid will have to wait,” explained Kawalazira.

Health officials have also commended the media for giving out proper information about the vaccine.
