Robert Mkwezalamba says that government was supposed to keep the students to mentor and conscientize them on management of public resources.

“The internship program which the government introduced is vital for the country. This gives an opportunity to the interns to learn more on how the public sector is run, especially in the management of public resources,” said Mkwezalemba.

A letter dated 10 May, 2021, signed by secretary labor states that the first and second cohort of interns, who joined the graduate internship program in the years from 2018 and 2019, will have their contracts terminated at the end of June this year as stipulated in their contracts.

The letter further states that the program was designed to engage interns for the maximum period of two years but it has now been revised to one year in order to give chance to fresh graduates.

Government introduced the program to provide work integrated experience to graduates as a bridging program from schooling to work in order to improve their employability.
