Robbers Leave Man with Life Threatening Wounds

Police in Mangochi have launched a manhunt for twelve unknown criminals who nearly killed a 48-year-old man identified as, Asidi Mponda, on Monday night by pouring acidic liquid mixed with petrol, before robbing him goods worth K730, 000.
Mangochi Police station spokesperson, Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, has told Zodiak Online on Wednesday that the incident happened in the area of Traditional Authority Katuli in the district.
“According to wife of the victim, the couple heard a big bang on the front door of their house.
“Suddenly, unknown criminals stormed the house, some dragged her husband to a nearby graveyard while some were getting properties,” said Tepani Daudi.
“The assailants hacked Mponda three times in the head with panga knives, poured acidic liquid mixed with petrol all over his body, before running away with a motorbike, three bicycles and one blanket,” explained Tepani Daudi.
She said the wife reported the matter to Katuli Police Unit who visited the scene of incident and found 2 bottles and 8 plastic carrier bags smelling petrol.
Currently, Mponda is admitted at Mangochi district hospital with deep cut and burn wounds and the Police have appealed to the community to provide hints that may lead to the arrest of the culprits.
