World Vision International - Malawi has called on the youth in Neno district to patronize VCT services in a bid to minimize HIV infections among the youths and maximize contraceptives intake.

World Vision Health and Nutrition Department Facilitator, Foster Chapondera says a lot of youths in Neno have fallen victim to HIV and AIDS and other sexually transmitted infections due to Covid-19 induced holidays hence a need to engage them in HIV prevention.

"A lot of youths, including here at Matope in Neno, have contracted HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases due to Covid-19 since they were idle for a long time and fallen prey to temptations of unprotected sex," he said.

Neno district hospital Youth Friendly Health Services Coordinator Anthony Sandiyang'ane, says there is a need for more awareness to be conducted, one being through sporting activities, if more youths are to access health services.

He says youths must be advised to understand that services meant for them at various health centres in Neno are tailored to suit their needs and they should burry any fears of being disclosed.

Hope Mwafulirwa who is Neno District Youth Officer encouraged the youths to take up contraceptives if they can't abstain while saying these must be taken only with guidance from a well-trained medical officer.

Meanwhile, Caroline Phombeya of Tchenga youth club has asked for manual books for reference when teaching youths on HIV and AIDS and contraceptives.
