Mangochi Police Deputy Spokesperson, Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, has confirmed the detention of Mr. Mpuluka, who surrendered himself to police Thursday and seizure of his licensed rifle.

According to Tepani Daudi, the victim whom he has identified as Edward Mbalasa, has told them that he is in a love affair with the woman in question who also happens to be in a relationship with the suspect.

She said at around 19:30 hours, the victim went to visit the woman at her house and while chatting with her in the bedroom, the suspect appeared and found them there.

Tepani Daudi said a quarrel broke out between the two and Mpuluka is suspected to have fired his STEYA M9-A1 rifle twice injuring Mbalasa on the right foot in the process.

However, Tepani Daudi said Mbalasa managed to escape and the suspect proceeded to fire bullets on the victim’s motor vehicle, but managed to flee the scene.

She said the matter was reported to police and the victim was referred to Mangochi District Hospital where he was treated as out-patient for a small wound and bruises.

Tepani Daudi said the police managed to visit the place and two empty cartilages were found.

She said Mpuluka will appear in court on Friday to answer his charges.
