The Mangochi First Grade Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, ordered 10 foreigners, each to pay a K50, 000. 00 fine and be repatriated within 14 days for entering Malawi without proper documents.

The court heard through State Prosecutor, Sub–Inspector Regina Chikungwa, that in the wee hours of May 25, 2021, the undocumented immigrants, nine Mozambicans and a Nigerian, entered the country through unchartered routes and were intercepted in different ad-hoc road blocks that were jointly mounted by police and immigration officers.

Appearing before court, all pleaded guilty and asked the court for leniency during mitigation, saying they illegally entered Malawi for medication as well as shopping.

But in its submission, the state prayed for stiff sentence citing the conduct of the foreigners is a threat to the nation.

All have paid the fines and authorities have repatriated them to Mozambique.
