Members of the "Devotion Family" a WhatsApp group within the CCAP Blantyre Synod have constructed a new Matimbe church in Mulanje.

Previously Christians were praying in a very dilapidated church which the Devotion Family Chairperson Paul Kamwendo described as a death trap.

"When we saw the old church on WhatsApp, we mobilized ourselves and came here. We saw that the structure posed a risk to Christians and mobilized resources through monthly contributions of not less than K1000 each and organized different fundraising activities. We managed to get K14, 786, 000 and this is the money we have used to build the church," said Kamwendo.

He said while the group mobilized money, the Christians there were mobilizing sand and bricks.

The church was officially opened on Sunday, 13th June, 2021.

And speaking after the church's inauguration, the CCAP Blantyre Synod General Secretary Reverend Dr. Billy Gama thanked the group for dedicating its resources and time towards the church project.

"Time for praying without acting is over and what the Devotion Family has done is praying and doing things and called upon other church organizations to emulate the portrayed gesture," said Rev Dr. Gama.

On the current social economic status, Reverend Dr. Gama bemoaned the rising cost of living when businesses and other jobs have been crippled by COVID-19.

"It's my appeal to the government to find mechanisms of cushioning the skyrocketing of basic goods because to say the fact most Malawians are facing serious economic hardships," said Rev Dr. Gama.
