Communities around Nambazo Health Centre in Phalombe have asked authorities to redeploy an ambulance which was withdrawn from the facility without any explanation some months ago.

Group Village Head Nambazo has told Zodiak Online, Tuesday withdrawal of the ambulance is impacting negatively on lives of people since they wait for ambulance to be sent from Phalombe once there is a patient who needs referral.

Nambazo says it is sad to note that the ambulance was withdrawn from the facility, forcing people to ferry their sick relations on motorcycle at a distance of 40 kilometers.

“Health authorities withdrew the ambulance from the facility without any explanation we are suffering when sick relations are referred to other facilities,” said Nambazo.

This was disclosed during the presentation of a score card findings which Phalombe Youth Arms Organization (PYAO) and Chiwalo Youth Network conducted in the area.

Director of Health and Social Service for Phalombe, Dr. Sam Siwakwe has attributed the challenge to shortage of ambulance drivers.

Dr. Siwakwe says his office has seven ambulances against only five drivers.

Phalombe Youth Arms Organization is implementing a project dubbed Leveraging Positive Action towards Improved youth and citizen participation in policy and budget processes in Phalombe district.
