Phalombe DHO Worried with Attack on Health Workers

Health authorities in Phalombe have challenged communities to desist from attacking health workers administering the ongoing cervical cancer vaccine.

Spokesperson for Phalombe District Health Office, Daniel Chilomo has told Zodiak Online, Thursday, angry parents stormed Tharu primary school baying for the blood of Health Surveillance Assistants, accusing them of administering vaccine to adolescent girls which kills people.

Chilomo says some girls rushed home where they informed parents that health workers were administering vaccine which kills people.

He says this did not go down well with some parents who stormed the school baying for the blood of the health workers.

"Head teacher for the school locked the workers in his office and alerted the police who rescued them," said Chilomo.

Chilomo has since urged parents to ask relevant authorities whenever they are suspecting something in the course of administration of the vaccine to avoid such scenario.

Meanwhile, Senior Chief Nkhulambe has described the development as pathetic, saying she has summoned chiefs around the school to find better ways of arresting the problem.

Recently, ministry of health disclosed that it has vaccinated 500,000 adolescent girls, a development health rights activists described as little compared to years the vaccine was rolled out.
