Over 1.8 million Children Targeted in Polio Vaccine
The Ministry of Health says it targets to reach out to over 1.8 million under five children across the country with injectable polio vaccine in a campaign which will be carried out from July 12th to July 16th this year.
Ministry of Health Spokesperson, Adrian Chikumbe, says the vaccine will be provided to children that were missed when they were providing the same in 2018.
He said in Salima on Saturday on the sidelines of a media orientation on the same.
“We want them fully immunized just like the rest by giving them the injectable vaccine through the catchup campaign,” he said.
“Right now, we already have procured the vaccines through our usual partners, Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative (GAVI),” said Chikumbe.
MBC’s Chikondi Phikiso who was among the participants described the training as critical saying it will assist the media to provide accurate information about the vaccine.
“As you know health issues are sensitive hence the need to provide accurate information. Especially now when many people have developed fear on issues to do with vaccine. There is a lot of misleading information out there so the training will assist us to perfect it. We are dealing with lives,” said Phikiso.
