Create Favorable Learning Environment- PHADEN

Phalombe District Education Network (PHADEN) has challenged authorities to ensure that there is favorable learning environment for learners.

The call comes amid an increase in establishment of makeshift video show rooms and beer selling points close to learning institutions.

Vice Chairperson for PHADEN Richard Muluzi says the problem is depriving learners of their right to access quality education.

Muluzi says the committee once engaged some Primary Education Advisors (PEA) in some zones and law to find better ways of arresting the problem but no avail.

“For a long time, people have been setting up video show rooms and drinking joint close to schools thereby infringing children to access quality education,” said Muluzi.

He adds that the committee supports establishment of small-scale businesses but such businesses should not infringe right to education.

Traditional Authority (T/A) Kaledzera says he will engage stakeholders to formulate by-laws which will protect learners from Chimbiri, Khanaja and Mwanyenga primary schools.

“We want by-laws that will protect learners from unfavorable learning environment in my area” Said Kaledzera.

Meanwhile, Chairperson for Phalombe district council education service committee, Simon Abraham says the committee has not received any report on the same but was quick to say the committee will look into the matter.
