Old Mutual Blantyre Foundation Trust and Care Malawi signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday in Blantyre.

Old Mutual Blantyre Foundation Trust Chairman, Tawonga Manda said this partnership will seek to help develop the infrastructure of learners across the country.

“One of the objectives of the foundation is to develop the education sector and this development is twofold. We are looking at actual development of learners in the educational sector and where we are able to provide sponsorship to those who are not able to sponsor themselves. But on the other hand, we are looking to develop infrastructure for the learners,” said Manda.

“Specifically for this function we are looking at infrastructure development where we are partnering with Care Malawi where we are looking to develop infrastructure in certain specific areas across the country,” he added.

Manda further said they decided to start with Mkanda Primary School because of the need that is there and they will build a fully furnished two classroom block and an administration block.

Care Malawi Country Director Amos Zaindi said he is hopeful the partnership will bring long lasting development to the good of the country and will bring change to young learners.

“From this partnership we hope to see quite a lot for the development of this country.

This partnership has come at the right time where we are promoting the coming together of different sectors in this case private sector and those of us in the civil society space, putting our efforts together and deliver long lasting development for the good of this country,” Zaindi said.

He further said that in this partnership they have decided to start with the educational sector so as to give a second chance to young learners both boys and girls that dropped out due to social issues which includes early marriages and teenage pregnancies.
