CfSC Program Officer responsible for Economic Governance, Benard Mphepo has told Zodiak Online on Saturday that government should ensure that all the development initiatives being implemented are properly monitored by government and beneficiaries for smooth implementation.

Mphepo says, for example, it is pathetic to note that people who were supposed to benefit from a water rehabilitation project in Phalombe are still struggling to access safe drinking water.

He blamed government for failure to ensure that the project is completed so that people of Phalombe should have access to potable water.

" It is sad to note people of Phalombe are yet to start accessing safe drinking water almost three years after launching the project " he explained.

Mphepo made the remarks when officials from CfSC toured  some construction sites of a multimillion kwacha  water rehabilitation project  which stalled in 2020   in the areas of traditional authorities Namasoko, Mkhumba and Nyezelera in Phalombe district.

Group Village Head Nyezelera says people in his area are struggling to access potable water as women wake up around 2 am in pursuit of safe drinking water, a development which put their lives at risk of being attacked.

Nyezelera added that people in the area banked hope on a water rehabilitation project by government but a year has elapsed since a contractor left the site.

Recently, Director of Water Supply and Service in the department of Water Development Emma Mbalame told us hiring of a new contractor awaits the office of Attorney General’s approval.
