The meeting followed a chiefs meeting at the district council on Friday where health authorities lamented low uptake of COVID-19 vaccines in the district.
During the meeting at her house, Senior Chief Chikumbu invited health personnel to vaccinate the willing chiefs.
“I got both AstraZeneca jabs and I feel safe but I will be safer if everyone gets vaccinated, so I plead with you to lead by example and access the vaccine,” said the Senior Chief.
She asked the 100 chiefs who attended the meeting to clear all myths surrounding the vaccine.
District Health Office Spokesperson Chipiliro Mjojo described the decision made by the chiefs as a good message to their subjects and other chiefs.
“People listen to their chiefs than anyone else and by accessing the jab, these chiefs have cleared all myths surrounding the vaccine and we believe more people will now start accessing the vaccine,” said Mjojo.
Apart from the 25 health facilities that are offering the vaccines in Mulanje, there are also mobile teams providing the vaccines in markets.
