Five people including children who live in the streets of Blantyre are in custody in connection with the murder of Edson Nasiyaya, a Limbe resident, on the night of August 9 this year.

The suspects aged between 15 and 28 are said to have committed the crime at Limbe market bridge near Motor Care.

Southern Region Police Spokesperson Superintended Ramsey Mushani while confirming the arrests indicated that the police are yet to apprehend others who are implicated in the murder.

“Police detectives from South West Region Police Headquarters and Limbe Police Station jointly undertook an investigation in which five suspects have been arrested in the murder of the late Nasiyaya.

“The investigations are still on. Our colleagues in the Investigations Department are almost through with the investigations much as some of the suspects have not yet been apprehended,” said Mushani.

“I can confirm that the five suspects are all from the streets and the police will make them face the law accordingly and in relevant courts as we have some suspects who are under legal age,” he added.

This arrest comes at a time when Limbe and Blantyre have been experiencing a rise in robberies and murder cases suspected to have been carried out by the street kids.

Meanwhile, police confirmed another murder that happened on 19 this month involving a traditional leader from Chiradzulu in which street kids are suspected to have committed the offence.
