Registrar of the High Court and Supreme Court of Appeal Gladys Gondwe told Zodiak on Friday morning that the judiciary is hopeful that the implementation of the amended labour Relations act and the arm’ functional review will make significant improvements in disposing of cases.

“The court had taken time off hearing cases in the better part of September this year to concentrate on writing of judgements,” said Gondwe

Registrar Gondwe has since promised a significant improvement in the disposing of cases in the industrial court.

“We hope the implementation of the amended Labour Relations Act to allow the court to sit without panelists and the judiciary’ functional review will likely improve the situation,” said the Registrar.

The sentiments come as the backlog of cases at the court is negatively affecting citizens to access justice on time.

As we speak, 287 guards for Illovo sugar company Nchalo Estate are waiting for the Blantyre Industrial relations court to fix a date for the commencement of the case where they are reportedly demanding overtime money from the company.
