Nsanje police spokesperson, Sub Inspector, Agnes Zalakoma, has identified the deceased as Albert Butawo.

According to Zalakoma, the man in question took poison and was found dead yesterday at Maya crop field.

Zalakoma says a preliminary inquiry has revealed that prior to this incident, Butawo had a fierce quarrel with his second wife who apparently had tactfully abandoned him with K2.1 million and got married in South Africa.

According to police report, "the man on 22/09/21 around 1500hrs took a bottle of water and told his wife that he was going to the market to buy medicine but surprisingly he did not return home.

"While the wife and relatives were searching for him, they received a report that a man had been found dead in a crop field at Maya village. They rushed and they identified the deceased to be their relative.

"Police accompanied by medical personnel visited the scene where it was confirmed that death occurred due to taking poisonous substance."

The Nsanje police spokesperson says no foul play suspected.

The development comes amid concerns of rising suicide cases in the country with men dominating.

Psychologists have been appealing to people who have issues to share them for assistance as opposed to resorting to committing suicide.
