Nsanje Police Hunt for Suspected Murderers

Nsanje police have launched a manhunt for unknown assailants who stabbed to death three people of the same family in the area of Traditional Authority Tengani in the district on Thursday night.

The district's police spokesperson, Sub- Inspector, Agnes Zalakoma, has identified the deceased as Fred Jemu, 80, his second wife, Fatima Karim 70, and a granny, Fatima Kharima aged 90.

According to Zalakoma, the incident occurred at Ntolongo village.

"It is reported that Fred Jemu had two wives, the second wife being Fatima Karim, the first wife stays in a different village,” she says.

Zalakoma says that "the assailants first stabbed the man and his second wife who slept on the veranda, before killing the granny who slept in the house," explained Zalakoma.

She added "the three people were found lying dead in a pool of blood.

"The matter was reported to police who visited the scene accompanied by medical personnel, who confirmed death as due to severe loss of blood secondary to multiple stabbed wounds," said Zalakoma.

Zalakoma says the motive behind the murder is not known.

Meanwhile she says if arrested, the assailants will answer murder charges.
