Council Officials Drilled on PSII

The Public Sector Reform (PSR) has challenged local councils in the country to come up with viable innovations in order to improve delivery of services to the rural masses as authorities rolling out Public Sector Innovation Initiative (PSII).

PSR Director Sibusiso Jere told journalists in Blantyre on Thursday that availability of such innovations at local level is a catalyst to achieve sustainable social economic development.

“We want councils to improve service delivery. Let us think outside the box and make a difference in our councils,” said Jere.

He went on commending Blantyre City Council for smart city project, Mulanje for a cable project and Mwanza and Balaka district councils for waste management and efficient collection of local revenue, describing them as better ways of enhancing public service.

The PSR Director believes such initiatives will assist the country to achieve the 2063 agenda.

Mulanje district council is intending to implement a Mulanje Mountain Cable Car Project that will be ferrying people from bottom to the top of the mountain; hence, promoting tourism.

Director of Planning and Development Enerst Kaphuka said they already conducted a feasibility study on the project and implementable.

The Public Sector Innovation Initiative is largely supported by UNDP.
