As the Catholic church is planning to hold a national missionary day for children at Bangwe in Blantyre this Sunday, children have been asked to utilize the activity to develop a culture of assisting fellow needy and vulnerable children who are living in stressful conditions.

Speaking to Zodiak on Tuesday, Pontifical Mission Societies, PMS Director for Blantyre Arch-diocese Fr Matias Thawani said through the event, children will be encouraged to mobilize resources to support others, works of charity and serving the church.

“There are several children in Malawi and other countries that are suffering due to various reasons. Such children need to be supported,” said Fr Thawani.

He then asked parents to support their children to participate for them to interact with other children and learn new things.

“The World Missionary Day for Children gives children an opportunity to pray, show their talents, continue the mission of serving others and the church,” he explained.

According to Fr Thawani, this year’s theme is, ‘you will be my witness to the ends of the earth’ drawn from Acts of the Apostles 1:8.
