It has transpired at the Expo Dubai 2020 that many people outside the country are salivating at Malawi’s products such as sugar, rice and pepper.

Malawi Investment and Trade Centre Public Relations Manager, Deliby Chimbalu, says this presents a great business opportunity for Malawians to export more.

“We are taking this Expo as a platform that we can tell the world that there is a country in southern Africa that is Malawi and it has a lot of opportunities that they can come and explore.

“There are potential investors who have shown interest to explore various opportunities including in energy, mining and other sectors which we are showcasing there in Dubai,” she said.

President of the Indigenous Business Association of Malawi, Mike Mlombwa, has called for government support towards traders to cross borders.

“We see air cargo coming here fully loaded. However, when it goes back, it goes empty. So, this is the time we can utilize those great opportunities. I know government can come in and assist us. We commend government because it is busy exploring opportunities for us,” he said.

The six-month Expo started in October last year in Dubai.
