Two prominent child Activists have asked the ministry of gender and police to urgently implement the ombudsman directive to withdraw all children living or working in the country’s streets amid increasing reports that street connected children are terrorizing people.

Memory Chisenga and Victor Mhango told Zodiak on Friday that it is pathetic that children are neglected to turn into criminals instead of taking them to rehabilitation centres to become responsible citizens.

Chisenga said it is pathetic that children are being allowed to turn into criminals thereby posing security challenges.

“We want urgent actions from the government. Let the children be taken to rehabilitation centres to assist them to be responsible citizens,” said Chisenga.

On his part, Mhango has asked police to increase visibility to stop the children from hacking and robbing citizens.

Minister Patricia Kaliati has promised to coordinate with police and city councils in order to withdraw the children.

The 2019 findings by the office of the ombudsman revealed that government’s failure to withdraw the children has fueled the plight of children and contributed to criminal elements now threatening the country’ cities.

Just a few days ago, angry people mercilessly beat up and attempted to burn a street kid after he was allegedly caught robbing a man.
