Evacuation Camps Register Zero Disease Case

The Ministry of Health says no outbreak of any disease has been reported from disaster evacuation camps apart from routine conditions and infestation of bedbugs.

Deputy Director of Preventive Health Services responsible for Environmental Health Services in the ministry of health Allone Ganizani in an interview with Zodiak Online attributed the development to continued coordination between the health clusters both at national and district level.

“Our fear mainly has been on water borne or sanitation related diseases but I think with chlorination of water used these camps is contributing to the current situation,” said Ganizani.

He said despite recording zero case of diseases in evacuation camps, health surveillance assistants and other health workers are closely monitoring the situation in the camps to contain the outbreak of any disease.

Since January 24 this year, scores of people have been seeking shelter in different camps after Tropical Storm Ana destroyed their houses.

Currently, the county has 178 camps where 190, 429 people are seeking shelter.
