Speaking to Zodiak on Friday after a stakeholders meeting aimed at exploring mechanism to avert security lapses, National Director of Community Policing, Aubrey Nyirenda, said it is pleasing that the country is winning the battle against attacks on Persons with albinism.

However, Nyirenda said witchdoctors have a vital role in exposing criminality before they happen such as those targeting Persons with Albinism.

"We want to be sharing information mostly with these traditional healers so that they have some sense of responsibility in terms of provision of security. In the way we understand it, we hear that some ill-minded people who are looking for the body parts of people with albinism contact these traditional healers to seek charms from them for them to get rich," he said.

One of the traditional healers, Dr. Ibrahim Ngongodo says they will report to police those claiming to have or wishing to access concoction which would endanger lives of Malawians.

"We have been hearing that witchdoctors perpetrate the acts. But it is not true that we are the ones prescribing concoctions to people behind abuse of persons with albinism. So, from now, we will be reporting to police those claiming to have or wishing to access concoction from us," Ngongondo said.

APAM District Chairperson, Richard David, has hailed police, opinion leaders and traditional healers for their commitment to protecting the lives of people with albinism.

David has, however, expressed concern that they are still facing challenges to access skin lotion and in most instances, they receive the ones which are about to expire.
