MAM Seeks Support for Disaster Victims
The Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) has conceded that its prayer services have been heavily affected by the recent natural disasters as most of its members are no longer participating.
MAM spokesperson, Sheikh Dinala Chabulika has told Zodiak Online that the Muslim community has been hardly hit with its followers currently in camps and others trying to get their lives back to normal while failing to access prayer services.
On the other hand, Chabulika says the cyclones have created absolute poverty and have since notified their partners in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to provide economic support for the members to start commercial activities to boost their economic livelihoods.
Chabulika urged people in disaster prone areas to relocate to upper places as it's a threat to lives.
Meanwhile, DODMA Public Relations Officer, Chipiliro Khamula has commended the move by MAM but urged stakeholders to promote disaster risk reduction saying it will help save funds used for response.
"This is a very commendable as it shows that we have a good relationship with the faith-based organizations. Other organizations should join us in response but mostly in disaster risk reduction exercises like construction of dykes, which will help us save money," Khamula said.
